Republican politician Jack Ryan has ended his quest for a US Senate seat, four days after allegations that he pressured his ex-wife, a Star Trek actress, to have sex in swingers clubs were made public. Ryan, 44, said he was reluctantly calling off his bid for an Illinois Senate seat because he wanted to avoid a "brutal, scorched earth" campaign.
